3 STUDENTS ENROLLED

6 weeks/1 hour class per week

Pre-requisite: EW 1 & 2

Note:  The introductory video for the course explains how many weeks to allow to complete this course.

EW3 assumes the student has done the EW2 course with Webster’s Academy, and has done so at a level that demonstrates readiness for more advanced essay writing both in terms of the writing itself, and in terms of the thinking work necessary to build a strong argument.

This course also assumes the student has done the condensed Webster’s Academy grammar course, or has reviewed it and is competent in the grammar taught there.

This advanced EW3 writing course will prepare the student to write a university entrance level research paper. EW3 is a fairly intensive course as it will take the student through all parts of the process of writing a research paper. The focus of the instructor’s input/feedback throughout the course will be on the concepts taught in the EW3 course itself – that of writing a strong thesis statement, and arguing that thesis statement in this longer essay format.

As students write their paragraphs for this research paper, it is highly recommended that they follow the checklist provided with each class. This checklist reminds the student of what the instructor will be focusing on in the marking of the paper. However, the checklist also includes items that are a review from the EW1 and EW2 courses – sentence openers, dress-ups, decorations, triples, transitions within paragraphs, transitions between body paragraphs, and quotations. The student is expected to write with these as part of their paragraphs. Review of these items is covered in this EW3 course.

Students will submit an assignment for each week of class. After completing their week 6 assignment and receiving input on it, students are strongly encouraged to revise their assignment and to submit the final draft of their research paper for a comprehensive marking – this is final feedback and marking on the whole essay, including all style elements, quotations, and transitions.  There is an additional fee of $25 for this final comprehensive marking.
